April 2009 – A cup before surgery, C cup after
This active 22 year old wore an A cup bra and had very little breast tissue. This condition is called hypomastia and is very common. The breasts never fully develop resulting in a juvenile appearance that is usually out of proportion with the rest of the body. It can be emotionally troubling, often resulting in self-consciousness and difficulty finding clothes that fit properly. It often runs in the family.
The procedure to correct this is called augmentation mammaplasty. It is done using breast implants. Currently, there are two types of implants available for augmentation: saline, and silicone. This refers to the filler material. Saline is salt water, silicone is a gel that has a more natural texture. Silicone implants had been taken off the market during the 1990’s and early 2000’s, but has been FDA approved since 2007. |

Implants can be placed through incisions in the nipple, under the breast fold, and under the arm. They can also be placed above the pectoralis muscle, or below the muscle. Most surgeons place them under the muscle in most patients.
This patient chose saline implants. She was sized up to a 420 cc implant which was filled to 450 cc’s. This put her into a C cup. The implant was placed under the muscle, using an incision under the pigmented part of the nipple.
Dr. Eshbaugh is performing breast enlargement (augmentation) on patients using saline and silicone implants. He is an expert in the field. |
